I see Bromley have announced the death of their former manager John Biddle, I wondered if it was the same guy who managed us

It is the same John Biddle that managed Dartford. He was 91.

I remember him. It was the time when we went all American I think. The American style posts behind the football goals and shirts with two vertical stripes (like braces). Kicking cheap plastic footballs into the crowd for the kids to keep. Success on the pitch - not much!

You’re getting him mixed up with another JB, John Boyle (former Chelsea player). Both JBs were as equally atrocious as managers of the Darts which resulted in supporters demonstrating behind the main stand at Watling Street. The DFC directors acted swiftly in both cases as the managers were sacked within days. In the case of John Biddle’s sacking, our opposition that night was Weymouth and their supporters quite enjoyed the mass chanting of ‘Biddle out’…Happy days.

I stand corrected - yes I agree, both bad appointments.

I remember it well standing behind the goal and at the end of the match rushing to get behind the main stand and constantly chanting along with many others in the crowd Biddle Out Biddle Out

Trev, I’m not sure how many supporters from that era are still breathing to contemplate a similar event should the need arise? Although I’ve no doubt there would be plenty of vocal encouragement from ‘above’!

Funnily enough the occasion when the ‘Boyle out’ chant occurred from the massed ranks behind the main stand was also a Tuesday night when we lost 1-0 to Bridgend Town. If I’m not mistaken, both teams hadn’t won a league game but our visitors were rock bottom of the league.
