A friendly? This was a full-bloodied affair – no friendly by the number of players on the deck, yet was always played in good spirit and the knocks taken by players on each side were received with no animosity whatsoever.

Actonians, a tier above Darts, showed their class in the opening 25 minutes when their passing game was well executed and their midfield controlled the game, but their striking force wasn’t exactly on fire.

Harriet gave a good display in goal, keeping a clean sheet for the first 45 minutes she played.

The only goal of the game came in the 35th minute when a young trialist drove the ball low into the right-hand side of the goal and out of reach of the diving ‘keeper. Paris provided the assist as she lined the ball up in the penalty area for the scorer.

In the second-half Jade replaced Harriet in goal and there were the customary changes in personnel to allow for experimenting and game time and all subs were used.

As the game went on, with Actonians rarely threatening Jade’s goal, Darts’, it must be said, looked the more likely to score and long-range efforts from Amina, Aisling and Shauni all found defenders in their way, blocking good shots.

A pleasing, and battling performance, from the Darts gave the fans plenty to enjoy and talk about.

Gabby suffered a nasty-looking ankle injury midway through the second-half that put her out of the rest of the game but after the game simply said: “it’s not too bad!”

Amina was a real live-wire today, especially in the second half and it is pleasing she is growing in confidence and taking on defenders, sometimes two at a time!

Overall, a very entertaining game and Connor & Macca certainly could take plenty of positives from this game.

Darts’ were without captain Xayla, Lizzie and the injured Emily Read and Meghan McKeag.
