Groundman's Newsletter December 2011

Article by Andy Gibbins - AJG Grounds Maintenance

As you may or may not have known, I used to work for Landscape Solutions and as of July 2011 I set up my own company AJG Grounds Maintenance and have sole charge of the contract at Dartford Football Club

The Main Pitch

August seems a distant memory, when everything was in full flight of growth and the weather was warm and dry. The pitch started this season looking fantastic and to be fair with the amount of games it has already endured its holding up well. Yes there are areas of the pitch that are showing signs of wear but unfortunately this is par for the course this time of year. 3G grass has been advised to cosmetically improve the pitch surrounds and hopefully installed in the very near future. Fertilizers are being applied every 10 weeks to keep the pitch growing & green.

Our 3 new employees!

I'd like to take this opportunity in welcoming Jamie Hayes, Apprentice Groundsman to the team.

Investment in two new Hayter class 41 mowers have also joined the team to give a more professional finish across the areas of the course and football pitch.

Donation From Rigby Taylor

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Rigby Taylor for the gift of their new Pro Glide line marker that they donated to the club. This piece of equipment retails at £1000 and we are very grateful to them for this. It has made line marking so much easier and has saved us a great deal of time.

3G Pitches

With bookings as busy as ever on the main 3G pitch, the surface is in need of some extra care. However, with the new mini pitches now open, this should help to reduce the wear but we are asking all hirers to make sure that goals are moved back after use and rubbish is cleared away after each session.

Tree planting to replace the lost trees in the building of the new mini pitches will commence as of January, to make the areas around both pitch areas more attractive for players and spectators alike.

Princes Park Golf Course

The golf course is starting to show signs of improvement and with conditions on our side i.e. a mild winter, the greens will benefit from being disease free for the first time. A new irrigation system is being obtained after the old system was failing to water the greens sufficiently during the summer and with water becoming expensive, this should be more cost effective, freeing up the necessary funds for fertilisers.
The Golf gate has been a great success and I am sure everyone appreciates its easy in use and for preventing vandalism to the course. However, I must stress, that it is strictly forbidden to jump this gate as serious injury could be caused. We have the loyalty card, pay for 5 rounds and get your 6th round free. A Twilight/reduced rate is also now available between 12:00pm - 3:00pm.

There is parking for approx. 200 cars at the ground (£3 fee which includes programme), but you have to be early to bag a space on the tarmac bit. Street parking is tolerated, but local residents tend to have a sense of humour failure if you obstruct their driveways!

Disabled supporters are currently accommodated in front of the Charles Mortimore or main stand. The new Prospect Road Stand will have dedicated disabled facilities. Blue Badge Holders can park for free in designated parking spaces at the ground. However as there are only a limited number of spaces visitors are advised to telephone the club on 0844 807 9900 to reserve a space.

Inside the ground there is the Boro Burger Bar serving the usual hot and cold drinks, burgers and hot dogs - plus much more.

The Boro Burger Bar now includes a Plasma TV showing Sky Sports so you can catch the end of Live Sky games or check on halftime scores whilst enjoying some of the fantastic food on offer.

The Main Club bar has recently been refurbished and all supporters, home and away, are very welcome. Sky Sports, is available on a large screen. A wide variety of beers are on tap including real ales which often includes brews from Youngs in London and Hogs Back Brewery in nearby Tongham. Fresh rolls are also normally available on match days as well as the usual bar snacks.

Please note that on match days the Main Bar is only accessible from inside the ground, turnstiles open at 12pm on Saturdays.

Take the fourth exit, and take a left at the cinema along Broadway.

Car Parking at the ground is strictly limited to the players and officials of each club on matchdays. If you have an exceptional reason why you need to park at the ground you must contact the club well in advance of the game for your request for a space to be considered.

There is no street parking close to the ground so you are recommended to use the municipal car parks on Grove Road, Park Street or The Broadway. These are all within five minutes walk of York Road.

Public Transport is often the best way to get to York Road as Maidenhead railway station is only five minutes walk away. The station provides fast links to the rest of the country with four trains an hour between London and Reading.

Spectators coming from the station should use the turnstile in Bell Street.

It is club policy not to allow musical instruments inside the ground.
If the match is segregated away supporters will get put into a narrow bank of terracing shoehorned into the East side of the ground (The Chris Lane Terrace). It is not sheltered. Bring your brollies if it is raining (unless Woking deem these as offensive weapons/musical instruments).

Cardinals Club which is situated inside the main entrance in front of the family and west stand caters for supporters to have a drink before, during and after the game.

Fullers Brewery is the main brewery of the Club. They also do pre-match hot bar snacks from within the Club ranging from a plate of chips to a full blown all day English breakfast. Many other excellent dishes are available. The clubroom is open mainly for their supporters, but visiting supporters on non-segregated games are allowed in on approval of the Bar Manager.

All four areas of the ground are catered for, with hot and cold beverages (non-alcohol) hot dogs, hamburgers, hot pies and chips and various snacks, from the time the turnstiles open to the end of the game. Catering staff are pleasant and always helpful to make sure you receive the service you are looking for at Kingfield Stadium.

INFORMATION

Dartford FC website states home matches are:

£12 - Adult
£6 Concessions (12 years to 17, over 60's)
£2 Child (up to 11 years old)
(Match Programme £2.50)

Due to part of the planning conditions around the building of Princes Park, it has been necessary to make any match with an expected crowd of 2000+ all ticket. This is for a number of reasons, including traffic management of the roads surrounding the stadium and the health and safety certificate.

There are two turnstiles at either end of the ground, with a 5th at the Academy end for season ticket holders.

Other Dartford parking

Street parking is available in the surrounding area & if you park sensibly, it should not be a problem. Parking in front of someones driveway is not sensible parking, neither is parking on the pavement. Use Google StreetView to do a recky of the area beforehand.

If you are a member of David Lloyd gym, use their car park which is next door to the ground. March 2012 update: The gym has installed barriers, so you need your membership card to exit the car park, although due to the slow barriers, it's easy to slip out behind another car.

Could all visitors to Princes Park, please use the bins provided and not just drop your pie etc wrappers on the terraces. Do you do this at home? Thought not.

Table updated 14.5.2012 @ 07.09

The above table does not include any goals, appearances or bookings from the 2011 friendlies.

D
oes not include Erskine's 3 league goals (16.8.2011 against Woking, 20.8.2011 against Dartford, 29.8.2011 against Basingstoke) or his FA Cup goal on 1.10.2011 against Arlesley.

Includes Play offs.

The figure in yellow is how many yellow cards after the FA amensty of 31 December have been collected by the players.

The amnesty only applies if you receive less than 5 bookings
between the start of the season & 31 December.

In the table above, Green had 4 yellows & Champion 9 yellows before 31 December. Green and Champion were booked on 2nd Jan. Champion was suspended for 2 games, but Green was let off.

The bookings recorded are taken from the PureDFC forum, so if there are any inaccuracies, then the blame lies with the match day posters who should have gone to Specsavers.

Disciplinary Procedures

FA Suspensions FA Awaiting Suspensions FA Disciplinary News

From season 2009-2010 onwards, the cut off date for five cautions is now reduced to 31 December.

Previously, players collecting five yellow cards prior to the final day in February were subject to a one-match suspension. This will now only apply if a player reaches five yellow cards before 31 December. Sanctions for players accumulating 10 and 15 cautions remain in place as do their respective amnesty periods.

Furthermore, if a player does accumulate the permitted number of cautions prior to a cut-off date then the suspension will now be automatic as opposed to the current seven day rule. See here for further details

Sam Higgins, who returned to East Thurrock United last season after starting the campaign with Chelmsford City, is a former Ryman Division One North `golden boot` winner.

The 21-year-old`s footballing apprenticeship was with Millwall and Southend United.

To date he has eighteen league goals to his name.

Tony Stokes has three more league goals than Higgins, and joins the Darts, also on dual registration, from Concord Rangers.

Originally on the books at West Ham, he had loan spells with Rushden & Diamonds, Brighton, Stevenage Borough and Hungarian side Ujpest before leaving Upton Park in 2009.

He rejoined Ujpest on a more permanent basis in July 2009 but returned to England in May 2010 and signed for Corncord where he has been prolific.
